STANDARD 13/12 HAMMERED DULCIMER

Our Standard 13/12 model is an excellent compact hammered dulcimer.  The numbers "13/12" refer to the musical structure and configuration of the instrument.

The treble bridge contains 13 courses, with position markings for the keys of D, G, C, and F.  The bass bridge contains 12 courses, with position markings for the keys of G, C, F, and B flat.  The overall range is 2-1/2 octaves, from G (below middle C) to E (3 octaves above middle C).

This model features movable bridges that enable the top two courses of each bridge to be sharped (converting to chromatic) by sliding the bridge segments toward the center of the instrument.  This capability is a popular feature among musicians who enjoy playing Celtic melodies.

The Standard 13/12 soundboard is made from center cut quarter-sawn Western red cedar.  The instrument soundholes are handcrafted maple or black walnut rosettes.  The Standard 13/12 rosette is the smaller of the two pictured at left.  The back is made of select solid poplar and the upper and lower rails are black walnut, scalloped for resonance.  The side pin blocks are made of laminated maple die block, black walnut, and mahogany.  The side bridges are beech and the treble and bass bridges are black walnut with Delrin bridge bearings.

Our 13/12 hammered dulcimer can be upgraded with handcarved Cadbol Flower rosettes for the price of $695 (refer to the Custom Rosettes page to see the design).
