The Poplar Hill mountain dulcimer is our top of the line concert or "artist" model. It is a beautifully crafted instrument suitable for both the professional and the novice musician. This model is larger than the others and has a wider and deeper body, producing a deep rich tone and greater volume. The fretboard is also wider to easily accommodate any string configuration: four equally spaced strings, three equally spaced strings, or double melody strings equally spaced with two drones.
The standard Poplar Hill features a bookmatched black walnut body with gracefully curved Pennsylvania Dutch style heart-shaped soundholes handcarved into a bookmatched top of Western red cedar. Each side has five steam bends, gently contouring the body at both the headstock and the tailpiece. The back seam decorative inlay is a repeating colorful pattern. Custom order without the back inlay would be $10 less.
This model may be custom ordered with any of these additional options:
- Cherry, sycamore, maple (Ambrosia, quilted, or Birds eye) wood body with Western red cedar top (no extra charge)
- Zebra wood back, sides, fretboard and headstock (pictured)
- Rosewood back, sides, fretboard and headstock with floating fretboard
- Five strings instead of four
- Six strings instead of four
